Athletic Therapy
Athletic therapist are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.
Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients with many different injuries and provide various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.
**We encourage you to look into your insurance coverage to be sure if your plan covers Athletic Therapy. Currently we can only direct bill to Manitoba Blue Cross, Green Shield, MPI and WCB for Athletic Therapy services.**

Physiotherapy- Acupuncture
Acupuncture is typically prescribed for acute or chronic pain, muscle spasms or discomfort, pain and headaches. The needles may be stimulated by hand or electrical stimulation depending on the patient preference or the therapist’s prescription.
The penetration of each needle can be compared to a pinprick, a mosquito bite or no sensation at all. The dull ache felt with needle manipulation is called “ chi”. Chi is the energy flow between acupuncture points following the meridians (energy pathways throughout the body). The rest of the acupuncture experience is nearly painless.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the Nervous System to release its natural pain relievers called endorphins, as well as, anti-inflammatory chemicals to reduce swelling and promote healing.
Contradictions of acupuncture treatment (please do not book if the following apply to you)
Pregnancy
Bleeding Disorders
Seizure Disorders
Skin Infections/Diseases
< 6 months Post-Operative
Some of our physiotherapists are licensed in using acupuncture as a form of treatment during a physiotherapy session. Therefore, acupuncture appointments fall under the category of a physiotherapy treatment.. A physiotherapy- acupuncture appointment is scheduled as a physiotherapy treatment, with acupuncture received at the end of your session at no additional cost to you.
*Insurance companies do not allow acupuncture treatments done by a physiotherapist to be claimed under acupuncture benefits.
Physiotherapy- Dry Needling
Also known as Intramuscular Dry Needling, it is an Acupuncture technique designed to treat Myofascial pain. Single use sterile needles are inserted into specific areas to target muscle adhesions and/or trigger points.
Dry Needling causes relaxation of muscle spasms, debriding of scar tissue or muscle adhesions, as well as, pain reduction by stimulating the body’s natural pain relievers called endorphins and the natural anti-inflammatory chemicals from our Nervous system to reduce swelling.
It is marginally more painful than traditional acupuncture. The single use sterile needles used for dry needling are slightly thicker for structural integrity. Also, the conditions chosen to treat in this way tend to be more so of the chronic type, thus these areas may tend to be mildly more hypersensitive to stimuli.
Dry Needling could be administered with your consent for chronic muscle pain or spasms, chronic pain not responsive to other treatment techniques, release of adhesions or scar tissue, and increasing joint mobility and/ or muscle flexibility. Ie. Tennis elbow, rotator cuff tendonitis, frozen shoulder, chronic low back pain, and many more.
Some of our physiotherapists are licensed in using dry needling as a form of treatment during a physiotherapy session. Therefore, dry needling appointments fall under the category of a physiotherapy treatment.. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy- Adult Female/ Person With Female Anatomy
Fit4Life provides a unique discipline of Physiotherapy called Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Pelvic Health concerns are more commonly experienced by women but also affect numerous men. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists are skilled in assessing the bones, musculature, ligaments, and fascia of the pelvic area. As well as, the low back, hips, and pelvic floor constituents of the core. They evaluate the urinary, bowel, sexual, and reproductive functions of the core.
Patients are treated in a private and comfortable treatment room which is virtually sound proof as issues with the pelvic floor can be sensitive and personal. We also have an innovative Electromyography (EMG) Biofeedback machine with electrical muscle stimulation designed to target the affected areas of the pelvic floor. EMG is a diagnostic tool assessing the health and reactivity of the musculature, as well as, the nerves that supply them.
The most common individuals that seek Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation are pregnant and postpartum women. These individuals commonly suffer from pelvic pain, incontinence, or commonly both. This is due to the many anatomical and physiological changes their body undergoes. For postpartum women symptoms tend to be greater as there may be tearing, scar tissue ,and/or complications from Vaginal or Caesarian section delivery. However, Incontinence is also very common for women more so than men who’ve suffered a low back injury, motor vehicle accident, fall, and also it is commonly a symptom post operatively. Any trauma to the low back, core and pelvic area frequently causes pelvic health concerns (incontinence and/or pain.)

Custom Made Foot Orthotics
Your Physiotherapist will perform a thorough gait analysis and assessment, as well as, cast a mold of your foot in a neutral position. These plaster casts are then shipped to Paris Orthotics where they will fabricate your individualized custom orthotics from the mold supplied. Essentially the orthotics work by bringing the ground up to your foot minimizing maligned joints and supporting the affected areas needed in a neutral position. These malalignments can cause our gait mechanics to put unnecessary stress on our joints and tissues thus causing pain into the feet, lower extremities, and even traveling up to the back.
Fit 4 Life can cast your feet for Custom Foot Orthotics for all types of footwear from runners and everyday shoes to dress shoes and even hockey/figure skates!
Custom Orthotics benefit many Orthopedic conditions. Many commons conditions include: Plantar fasciitis, Hallux Valgus, Pes Planus, abnormal pronation or supination of the foot, Achilles tendonosis, plantar spurs, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Patellofemoral syndrome, chronic low back pain, shin splints, metatarsalgia and many more!
* Please note that most insurance companies do not allow direct billing for Custom Orthotics
Massage Therapy
Our licensed massage therapists have specialized training in the safe administration of manual manipulation of soft tissues (muscles, connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons) thus promoting well-being and relaxation.
Your visit will start with a brief assessment and history, which will help your Clinician adapt the massage to your specific needs. You can discuss with your therapist at the time of your treatment if you wish to receive a deep tissue, relaxation or therapeutic massage. You can choose the duration of your treatment from 30, 45, 60 or 90 minute massages.
Massage Therapy- Hot Stone
Our jade stones are in various shapes and sizes, polished smooth and exceptionally retain heat. They are heated in a professional heater until they are within a precise temperature range of approximately 45 degrees celsius. Depending on your areas of muscle tension, the hot stones are generally placed along both sides of the spine, on the legs, the palms of the hand, and even between your toes.
Your skilled Massage therapist will use anatomy to guide the positioning of the stones, while also placing them on energy points throughout the body to invigorating body and mind. Most individuals find the warmth of the hot stones to be soothing and relaxing. Hot stone massage is a good Massage technique to choose for those who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The warmth relaxes tight musculature, allowing the therapist to release the muscles using a softer pressure.
